The objective of the research was to study the effect of instructional strategy
and cogn programming ability by controlling logical intelligence. It was a
quantitative research with treatment by level 2x2 design of experimental
method conducted at Information of Management Department of Universitas
Pendidikan Ganesha with sample of 96 students. The data was analyzed using
two way analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The data analysis and
interpretation indicates that by controlling logical inteligence, the student
computer programming ability who follow heuristic instructional algorithmic
instructional strategy. Futhermore, there is strategy is higher than those from
students who follow interaction effect between instructional strategy and
cognitive style on students’ computer.Studentswith pro field independent
cognitive style more suitable with heuristic instructional strategy, while
students with field dependent cognitive style more suitable with algorithmic
instructional strategy. The findings lead to the recommendation to use
heuristic instructional strategy in programming class by considering students
cognitive style.
