Singaraja– The Master’s and Doctoral Study Program in English Language Education, Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) Postgraduate Program in collaboration with the Indonesian Postgraduate Foreign Language Education Association (APBAPI) again held a guest lecture, on Friday (9/6/2023). This public lecture which took place online raised the topic of inclusive communication (inclusive communication).
This lecture invites speakers from general Educational Science and Diversity-Conscious Education, Alpen Adria University, Austria, Dr. Edwin Hoffman. He is a lecturer, researcher, trainer, and advisor with expertise in cross-cultural communication (intercultural communication) and diversity competence, namely abilities involving cultural, emotional, and intellectual intelligence that enable a person to work effectively with people who come from different backgrounds. This seminar was attended by hundreds of students from universities who are members of APBAPI.
Regarding the topics discussed, inclusive communication is a communication approach that allows as many people as possible to be involved in an interaction. This approach recognizes that humans use many ways to understand and express themselves. This approach also encourages, supports, and enables humans to use various ways to understand and express themselves most easily. Therefore, understanding inclusive communication is very important to have, especially for students. “By understanding inclusive communication, we will know how to communicate in various situations, both communication between individuals, within an organization, and communication involving the wider population. “Apart from that, inclusive communication can also be applied in various modes such as face-to-face, oral and written communication, and communication using social media,” said APBAPI Representative, Prof. Amrin Saragih, Ph.D.
On this occasion, he also explained that this public lecture for students, lecturers, and professors was one of APBAPI’s programs. “This time is the second public lecture,” he explained, hoping that this public lecture could enrich educational horizons.
Coordinator of the Undiksha English Language Education Study Program Masters, Prof. Luh Putu Artini, M.A., Ph.D who represented the Director of the Undiksha Postgraduate Program expressed his appreciation for APBAPI’s trust in collaborating with Undiksha in organizing this guest lecture. “We are very happy to be able to collaborate to organize this extraordinary guest lecture. “We always support programs like this to strengthen the understanding of lecturers and students,” he said.
