Singaraja – Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) Postgraduate Program again held a doctoral promotion exam, on Monday (9/1/2023). The exam was attended by promovenda Ni Putu Ayu Hervina Sanjayanti from the Doctoral Science Education Study Program with a concentration in Science Education. In the exam which took place offline, Ayu Hervina presented a dissertation entitled “Development of a Science Learning Model Containing Local Balinese Wisdom to Improve Students’ Character and Science Literacy”.
This promovenda research born in Tigawasa generally aims to produce a science learning model containing local Balinese wisdom (KLB) that is valid, practical, and effective for improving students’ character and scientific literacy. The research results show (1) The design of the science learning model contains Balinese local wisdom with stages of presenting the phenomenon of Balinese local wisdom (starting of phenomena), organizing learners (student organizing, conduct perspective-based investigations in groups (perspective-investigation), present the results of the experiment (presenting), relate, analyze and evaluate the KLB phenomenon (evaluation); (2) The science learning model containing local Balinese wisdom as a whole is declared valid; (3) The science learning model containing local Balinese wisdom is stated to be practical; (4) The science learning model containing local Balinese wisdom is more effective in improving student character than conventional learning models; (5) The science learning model containing local Balinese wisdom is more effective in increasing students’ scientific literacy compared to conventional learning models; (6) The science learning model containing local Balinese wisdom is more effective in simultaneously improving students’ character and scientific literacy compared to conventional learning models.
Good research is research that produces new problems, so the research must be able to guide a new problem to be solved.
The limitation of this research is that not all Balinese local wisdom can be embedded in a particular topic so that future researchers can search and map back in detail topics that can be synergized with local wisdom. The second thing that can be developed is the level of teacher creativity in looking for phenomena that are closely related to the material. “Because this learning model is phenomenon-based, the teacher’s ability/creativity/criticality is needed in looking for phenomena that are closely related to the material/topic that will be taught to students,” said Ayu Hervina.
Judging from the contribution to the development of science and technology, this research has been able to adapt by producing novelty, namely the learning model output in the form of textbooks that can be accessed digitally. This supports students to be able to utilize technology in digital literacy.
The success of Promovenda, who was born in 1989, in defending his dissertation before the board of examiners, led him to become the 55th doctor born from the Undiksha Postgraduate Program. The eldest of three siblings and his family felt a sense of joy and emotion, because amidst his busy schedule as a teacher and going through the twists and turns in the research process, he finally succeeded in obtaining a doctorate.
The promoters congratulated and were happy because they succeeded in bringing Ni Putu Ayu Hervina Sanjayanti to achieve her highest education degree. “My message, of course, is to be a role model and a good example for students, families, and society. “Nowadays, through many existing media, we have to show good examples or role models, because we are in the field of education,” said Prof. Suastra as Promoter. As a doctor, you currently have new duties and responsibilities by continuing to work to develop the knowledge gained through research publications, and books, and as a resource person in scientific activities.
