Singaraja– The Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) Postgraduate Program together with the English Language Education Masters and Doctoral Study Program (Undiskha) are strengthening digital literacy for students. This was realized through a workshop in collaboration with Bali Province Information and Communication Technology Volunteers, on Thursday (16/3/2023).
This hybrid workshop was attended by students of the D4 English Language Study Program for Business and Professional Communication, Undiksha English Language Education Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral Study Program students. Carrying the theme “Building Character, Creativity, and Innovation: Becoming Capable and Smart in the Digital Era”, this workshop presented speakers from Undiksha English Language Education Undergraduate Study Program Lecturer, Kadek Sintya Dewi, Head of ICT Volunteers for Bali Province, I Gede Putu Krisna Juliharta, and Pandu Digital, Made Mahendra Eka P.
Following the theme, it was explained that digital literacy is supported in finding learning references for students. Digital literacy also encourages students to have the skills to think critically and build communication skills which can then be applied in the educational environment. Due to this, the Director of the Undiksha Postgraduate Program, Prof. Dr. I Gusti Putu Suharta, M, Si, in his speech at the opening event, considered that this workshop was very important to carry out.
According to him, amidst the progress of the digital era, various information is very easily published and easy to access. This needs to be supported by intelligence in sorting and needs to ensure its truth or accuracy. “A lot of inaccurate information can appear in cyberspace, it can appear on social media. We need to be smart in sorting and selecting information, not immediately accepting it. “Advances in digital technology also encourage us to become a critical generation,” he said.
Secretary of the Undiksha Postgraduate Program Local Committee, Prof. Dr. Ni Luh Putu Sri Adnyani, S.Pd., M.Hum., who represented the Chair of the Committee, said that this workshop was one form of implementation of the collaboration carried out by Undiksha Postgraduate and Bali ICT Volunteers. “We think that every collaboration we establish needs to be realized,” he said, hoping that through this activity, students’ understanding of digital literacy can increase.
