Blood Donor Social Service activity was held to commemorate the “birthday of Pancasila” which falls on June 1, 2022, and “World Blood Donor Day”, on June 14, 2022. The Blood Donation Social Service activity is a routine activity of the Computer Science Masters Study Program ( Ilkom) every year. This is in line with Prodi’s fundamental commitment to fostering concern for others.
The blood donation was held in two locations, namely Singaraja and Denpasar. Blood donor locations in Singaraja were held to commemorate the birthday of Pancasila, and in Denpasar to celebrate World Blood Donor Day. Blood donation in the Singaraja area was held at the PMI Buleleng branch, Jalan Yudisthira no 3 on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, from 09.00 to 12.30 WITA. Meanwhile, Denpasar blood donation is divided into 2 two sessions, namely session I on Saturday 11 June 2022 at. 09.00 WITA, and session II on Sunday 12 June 2022 at. 09.00 WIB. The Denpasar blood donation was carried out at the PMI Denpasar City headquarters, Jl Imam Bonjol no 182, Denpasar Bali. The implementation conditions took place in an orderly manner by complying with the Covid-19 health protocol, and the enthusiasm of the donors did not decrease even though the days tended to be hot. Of the total target donors of 50 (fifty) people, 40 (forty) people were realized, including 18 donors from the Singaraja area and 22 donors from the Denpasar and surrounding areas.
This activity was attended by Lecturers, Undiksha Computer Science postgraduate students, and the general public. The commemoration of Pancasila’s Birthday is realized through a humanitarian mission in the form of blood donation activities as a real action for the academic community. World Blood Donor Day 2022 carries the theme “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”, meaning “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join efforts and save lives”. Blood donation activities are a form of caring for others because a drop of blood means a lot to the lives of others.
PMI’s Blood Donation Campaign has the following specific objectives:
• Thanking the world’s blood donors and creating wider public awareness of the need for regular and unpaid blood donations.
• Highlights the need for committed year-round blood donors, to maintain adequate supplies and achieve universal and timely access to safe blood transfusions.
• Recognize and promote the value of voluntary unpaid blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion.
• Raise awareness of the need for increased investment from the government to build a sustainable and resilient national blood system and increase collection from unpaid voluntary blood donors.
In terms of donors, according to the Ministry of Health, the following are some of the benefits of regular blood donation for health that we must know, including:
• Can Detect Serious Diseases
In practice, before donating blood, we are obliged to check the condition of the blood which is also able to detect serious diseases such as HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, to malaria. For this reason, regular blood tests can detect various diseases as early as possible.
• Reduce the risk of heart and blood vessel disease
Regular blood donation is known to reduce blood viscosity, which is one of the factors that cause heart disease.
• Helps lose weight
For people who are currently focusing on losing weight, regular blood donation can be the wrong way to go. The reason blood donors can lose weight is that the average adult can burn 650 calories when donating 450 ml of blood.
By knowing some of the benefits of blood donation above, it is hoped that it will give confidence to all blood donors to be able to do it regularly. Thus, the blood supply can continue to be fulfilled, and the body becomes healthy. In addition to the benefits above, each donor at this event will also be given blood boosters, drinks, biscuits, bags, and key chains, and fan souvenirs. It is our great hope that this activity can still be carried out to foster a sense of caring for others, in addition to being a form of direct support for the Indonesian Red Cross
