Singaraja – The Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) Postgraduate Program again held a doctoral promotion exam on June 26, 2023. The exam was attended by 2 people, namely Promovendus Made Diah Angendari from the Doctoral Study Program in Educational Sciences with a Concentration in Educational Technology and Promovendus Kadek Adyatna Wedananta from the Doctoral Study Program Language Education with a Concentration in English Language Education.
In the offline exam, promoted Diah Angendari presented a dissertation entitled “The Influence of Hypermedia-Assisted Problem-Based Learning Models on Knowledge and Pattern Making Skills because of Students’ Cognitive Involvement”. Problem-Based Learning (PBM) can stimulate student activity through solving authentic problems. The results of the research show that by controlling prior knowledge, the knowledge and pattern-making skills obtained by those who took part in learning using the hypermedia-assisted problem-based learning model were higher than those of students who took part in learning using the PowerPoint-assisted problem-based learning model. Referring to the research results, it is recommended to apply a problem-based learning model assisted by hypermedia by seeking to increase students’ cognitive involvement and also developing hypermedia with different material.
Promovenda, who was born in 1974, successfully defended his dissertation before the board of examiners, thus making him the 66th doctorate born from the Undiksha Postgraduate Program.
Meanwhile, Promovendus Adyatna Wedananta presented a dissertation entitled “Language Use Among Youths In The Instagram: The Emergence Of Ethnotechpragmatics”. The research results showed three major findings. First, the domain represented in Balinese youth communication on Instagram is the domain of friendship. Second, Balinese youth use various formations to compose new words. Third, the use of language by teenagers on the social media Instagram mostly functions to express a sense of solidarity and empathy with other people with whom they have the habit or culture of establishing contact and referring to communication channels and this function is used for socialization. Thus, it can be assumed that teenagers are expressive in communicating on Instagram social media.
Promovendus suggests conducting further research using more subjects and conducting it over a longer time. Future research is also recommended to consider different types of social status and see how social status can be related to language use on Instagram.
The success of Provendus, born in 1989, in defending his dissertation before the board of examiners, led him to become the 67th doctorate born from the Undiksha Postgraduate Program.
